I have great pleasure in presenting you with my
Authentic New Zealand Maori
porcelain doll ' WAIATA'
Waiata, meaning song, has a full porcelain
body and stands 15 inches tall. Her costume is designed and
beautifully handcrafted using products natural to New Zealand, and is
available directly to both collectors and lovers of dolls all over the
world.
COSTUME
DRESS, BODICE
( Pari )
and HEADBAND ( Pare )
Traditional dress of the New Zealand
Maori. The bodice of the dress is designed using Maori Taaniko
Weaving and the pattern represents fish and water.
SKIRT
( Piu Piu)
This is made from a genuine Flax bush
(Harakeke) native to New Zealand. The flax is gathered,
patterned, dried, dyed, and woven by hand using traditional
methods.
SMALL BALLS (Pois)
While traditionally used by the male's of
the tribe to strengthen the wrists for fighting, the poi is now
used by the woman of the tribe, and is swung and twirled in native
dances at celebrations and meetings, The 'poi' is made from dried
corn husks.
NECKLACE (Mau kaki Tahei)
The necklace is a genuine
Mako Shark tooth,
which was caught off the coast of New Zealand by myself. Whale bone was
also used for carving.
